The Chinese technology giant has unveiled an extremely efficient integrated powertrain system that will be premiered in the upcoming Geely Galaxy TT sports sedan.
Geely Auto Group has unveiled a new “16-in-1” intelligent electric powertrain, which integrates twelve mechanical components – including an electric motor, controller and reducer – and four software systems for energy and driving control in one compact housing. The powertrain weighs just 75 kilograms and measures just 32,5 centimeters in height, which engineers achieved by eliminating more than 180 redundant parts and significantly reducing the length of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical wiring. Thanks to this optimization, the system achieves an extremely high operating efficiency of 93,8% under the Chinese CLTC test cycle.
The new advanced powertrain will make its debut in the new Geely Galaxy TT sports sedan, which, with a length of 5,00 meters, a width of 1,92 meters, a height of 1,48 meters and a wheelbase of 2,92 meters, places it alongside established models such as the Porsche Taycan and the BMW 5 Series. Two engine configurations will be available to customers; the rear-wheel drive version will offer 245 kW (329 hp), while the more powerful all-wheel drive version will develop 425 kW (570 hp). The sprint from zero to 100 km/h is expected to take just 3,8 seconds.
The innovations of Chinese car manufacturers bring concrete advantages in vehicle design, as the compactness of Geely's new system in the Galaxy TT model frees up around 28 liters of additional luggage space. Although the sports sedan in question is unlikely to be officially sold in Western markets, Geely is also the parent company of the Swedish brand Volvo. It is expected that these technological solutions will sooner or later also find their way into the models of the Gothenburg brand.
