Aston Martin Dreadnought: A Battleship for a Video Game

British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin is breaking new ground with the “Dreadnought” model, a fully digital military vehicle designed exclusively for the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. In close collaboration with developers from Infinity Ward and publisher Activision, the uncompromising and intentionally extreme SUV was created as a virtual concept.

The vehicle’s name is no coincidence, but a deliberate homage to a historical symbol of untamed power. The name, which comes from the English expression for “fear nothing,” establishes a direct connection to HMS Dreadnought, the legendary British battleship of the early 20th century. This warship revolutionized world shipbuilding in 1906 with its superior armament and modern turbine propulsion, and became synonymous with a whole new class of large battleships.

The Dreadnought class redefined the world's naval military power of the era. In keeping with this historical dominance, Aston Martin's digital SUV features exceptional equipment features, such as built-in reserve fuel tanks and bespoke weapons storage compartments, that perfectly reflect this military heritage.

The Aston Martin design team took full advantage of the digital realm to push the boundaries of what was physically possible. The result is a tactical all-wheel drive SUV powered by a powerful V12 engine, the signature sound of which has been faithfully simulated specifically for the game. The Dreadnought combines the performance of a super sports car with cutting-edge armour technology and adaptive battlefield systems.

Despite its military focus, the car remains a true Aston Martin. The most refined details, such as the Oxford Tan leather dashboard, gold accents on the gear lever and the brand's signature carbon herringbone exterior, are combined with robust military-grade armour plating.

Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, says the team designed the car to be able to perform on real roads, such as those in New York or in the monsoon rains of Mumbai. This precision in detail is complemented by the iconic Chiltern Green exterior colour. Stefano Saporetti, Aston Martin’s Director of Brand Diversification, also sees the project as a strategic opportunity to address the next generation of luxury consumers in their own living environments.

Players will be able to find the Dreadnought at strategic locations in the DMZ and Warzone game modes from launch. Those who want to see this virtual vehicle up close will have the opportunity to do so at Fanatics Fest in New York, where a full-size physical model of the SUV will be on display.
