The Range Rover brand, which has since become independent, is presenting its fifth model: the Range Rover GT. For the first time, it is not an SUV, but a Gran Turismo, but with a higher ground clearance - so the car could perhaps also be classified as a crossover.
The Range Rover GT is intended to be a classic Gran Turismo, not a sports car but a long-distance touring car with maximum comfort. It will also have off-road capabilities. “The combination of carefree electric performance, superior long-distance driving comfort and off-road capability is typical of Range Rover, while the reassuring interior space offers a glimpse into our vision of the modern grand tourer.” (Martin Limpert, Range Rover CEO)
The front has narrow, slit headlights, vertical air intakes on the left and right and active flaps at the bottom. The side view shows a coupe-style rear end that does not suggest an overly large trunk. The door handles are integrated and probably extend electrically. The rear lights are also as filigree as the front ones.
The Range Rover GT is based on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, which is expected to underpin smaller Jaguar Land Rover models – such as the electric Velar. Larger models, such as the Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric, are based on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform. However, none of these electric models have yet been launched.
The Range Rover GT is expected to be an all-electric model at launch, with a full hybrid (HEV) model to follow later. The latter would be a first, as the brand has never offered such a model before. The British luxury brand is not revealing anything about the technology yet. It may be similar to the Velar Electric model. This would mean that the GT will be available with 331 or 404 kW of all-wheel drive. Both are expected to be connected to a 119 kWh 800-volt battery. Production will take place in Halewood, UK, where internal combustion and hybrid versions are also expected to be produced.
Inside, the Range Rover is betting on a “clean” look with as few physical elements as possible. In addition to the large touchscreen in landscape format, there is a high-mounted dashboard display that shows only the most important information. The driving modes R, N and D are activated by a lever on the steering column, and the air vents are hidden. The materials are unusual: the dashboard is covered in textile, not artificial leather or leather.
The prototypes are currently undergoing final tests in camouflage. The official premiere is expected to take place in 2026, when further technical details will be announced.
