Four racer requests for the 2021 season

On Tuesday this week, FIA and F1 dignitaries and team leaders met for an obligatory exchange of views, where the rules for the 2021 season were discussed. Two racers were also present to present four points to improve the races. of the royal class of motorsport.

F1 is currently looking for its way. At the moment, it also does this by exchanging views of all participants. Once a month, representatives of the FIA umbrella organization, F1 management and all team bosses meet to consult on the rules for the 2021 season. Time is not their ally, as matters need to be adopted by October this year. According to the new rules, racers are also invited to these meetings. The first meeting, held in June, was attended by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Hülkenberg. Sebastian Vettel and Romain Grosjean were present at the last meeting, which took place on 23.7 July.

Both representatives of the GPDA racers 'association presented a four-point plan in which they outlined the racers' opinion on how the sport could be improved. And these points are as follows:

  1. Better tires that should not overheat quickly if the car ever slips on the track. It should also be easier to achieve the optimal window of operation and stay in it.
  2. Less sensitive aerodynamics. The race car behind the competitor must no longer lose as much vacuum as is the case now.
  3. Lighter race cars.
  4. A more balanced power ratio. Large differences in field F1 should be eliminated by a fairer distribution of money and by reducing expenditure

Romain Grosjean is looking forward to: "Jean Todt has given us his full support." Sebastian Vettel adds: “We have clarified our views. We'll see what happens. " But at the same time, the Ferrari star expresses his fear: “If we continue to debate, nothing will come of it. There must be action once. However, this is not possible if everyone can vote. Someone has to take matters into their own hands now and say: So it is and so it will be. That is why I also believe that we need to have a simpler decision-making procedure in the future. ”

When asked if refueling is returned or not, there are racers to return. However, not because they believe it would improve the show at the races. “We need to reduce the weight to help Pirelli make the tires we need for better racing,” says Grosjean. But the moment, according to racers, is going in the opposite direction. “The standard brake system weighs eight kilograms more than now, and the 18-inch wheels total 25 kilograms more. This will make the race cars heavier instead of lighter, ”warns Grosjean. Vettel, however, wonders who even came up with the idea to introduce 18-inch wheels. "Didn't anyone know before that racing cars would get harder?"

The first suggestion of the racers regarding the lighter weight of the race cars was to replace the current power units with conventional engines. Grosjean regrets: "Jean Todt told us in this case that other engines are not an option."
