Toto Wolff - The threat is called Verstappen

Although the head of the Mercedes team expressed his condolences to the Ferrari team after the qualifications for the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim, he was of course also looking forward to the 87th pole of Lewis Hamilton. The five-time world champion has once again shown that he is the best when it is needed and he overtook Max Verstappn, who will stand next to him in the front row, by a good three tenths of a second.

The top causes a lot of worries with the silver medal, because the young Dutchman proves time and time again how uncompromising and strong he is in matches. It is therefore not surprising that Wolff warns: “There is one threat and that is called Max Verstappen. I think it is Red Bull they showed good racing speed as a whole, they are good with tires and because of that they are definitely a danger in the race. ”

On the other hand, the Austrian is not satisfied with his own form in the home race. “We expected to be much stronger. We brought an improvement and knew in advance that the speed on the planes would not suit us here. But in the third sector we should be - like in Barcelona - good, but the whole racing weekend was not like that. ”

Because of this, they were basically not happy with their own performance, Wolff admits, adding: "It could have looked completely different if Ferrari hadn't finished qualifying early." Why the silverware remained below their expectations remains to be analyzed by the team. “We can see that the improvement is working. However, there are so many factors to consider, such as track layout, asphalt, and heat. These are variables that we need to analyze before the next race in Hungary. We also need to ask ourselves if we really understand how we can best set up a race car with aerodynamic improvements. ”
