Honda's revenge on Alonso

Revenge is sweet, so the saying goes. After Fernando Alonso insulted and humiliated McLaren Hondo's then-team partner for three years with his statements, revenge has now followed the race for the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim. Max Verstappn's second win of the season (and we also believe Kwiat's third place finish from Toro Ross in Germany) led the Japanese to write quite boldly on Twitter: "These are the GP2 wins of the 2019 season." But it should read 2 GP wins…. the Japanese corrected themselves playfully.

The background lies in Alonso’s radio message at the 2015 Grand Prix of Japan. Just at Honda’s most important domestic race at Suzuki, the Spaniard publicly blamed the Japanese manufacturer when he labeled their powertrain as a GP2 engine. The GP2 series was the forerunner of today’s F2 at the time, and this is supposed to tell the public that the Honda engine is only second-rate.

Z Red Bullom, however, Honda has proven they can win in F1. In Austria, they managed to win their first victory since returning to the royal motorsport class, now in Germany, another has followed. And if we repeat, with Daniil Kvyat, another racer stood on the stage for the winners of the race in Germany, whose car is powered by a Honda engine.
