Alfa Romeo: Official protest against the punishment

Raikkonen and Giovinazzi lost all points due to illegal clutch adjustment after the race in Hockenheim. The Alfa Romeo team has now confirmed that they will file an official protest.

Already after the sentence was handed down after the race in Hockenheim, the officials of the Alfa Romeo team announced a protest. Yesterday, however, they confirmed at the Hungaroring that they would indeed formally appeal. “This situation occurred in the circles behind the safety car before the start. The clutch malfunctioned and we had no control over it. We will investigate this mistake, ”said team boss Frederic Vasseur after the race.

As a result of the penalty, the team lost a total of ten points, causing them to fall from seventh place to ninth. “We respect the FIA processes and the work of the commissioners, but we will appeal this decision because we believe we have evidence to speak out against this punishment. We will contact the FIA soon. ”

But there is one hook here. Since the penalty was imposed as Drive-Through-Penalty, which was then converted into a time penalty, this penalty cannot be challenged. However, the Alfa Romeo team is left with the option of the so-called “Right of Review”, meaning that this case is being reconsidered. This was last done by Ferrari after Vettl’s penalty in a race in Canada.
