In the paddock of Hungaroring, there were debates about a possible change to the 2020 winter tests. Otherwise, the teams basically agreed to stay for eight test days in Barcelona before the start of the season, but now, despite the darkness, there could be cuts. The number of races, which is expected to rise to 2020 in the 22 season, is crucial.

It was originally intended to be tested twice in four days, just like this season in Spain. Further testing is expected to take place during the season, twice every two days, most likely in Bahrain and Silverstone. This framework, as far as testing is concerned, is also written in the sports rules FIA. For this plan to change, all teams must agree to it. And that would be necessary now, if he wants to Liberty Medium the calendar of races of the 2020 season to really increase to 22 events. Zandvoort and Hanoi are coming next year, while Spain is expected to stay, which has a guaranteed financial injection from the government.

Because of this, the majority owners Formula 1 asked all teams if they would be ready for an extra race. As a counterweight, testing could be shortened. However, as is already known, the key topics of debate are logistics and even more so the number of power units per season. At that time, each racer has three available.

The resources of the teams are also running out and will be tested by new ones 18 inch tires for 2021 additionally burdened. Numerous meetings of team leaders, the FIA and Liberty Media have already debated the 2020 season plan. In doing so, the teams have taken different positions. Nevertheless, the news has come to the public that everyone is united in the fact that change must take place. In this case, the consent of the team is increasingly likely.

Andrew Green, Racing Point

"Personally, I personally think that we do too many tests before the season", menu for example Andrew Green. “With all the test tables and simulators we have, today’s race cars are very reliable. And the tracks on which we can test are not representative of most of the tracks on which we perform in the championship. If you really want to mix something up, then fewer test days before the start of the season will definitely help. ” Green thinks the idea of deleting one test week is very good. "If you have everything under control, testing can sometimes be more confusing than learning from it."

And it’s also even a danger due to too many tests. “I believe we can test less because the test is not a good way to start a hard season with 22 races. If we reduce testing, we could also reduce the workload for all participants. ”

One variant it would be to do only one week of winter testing and that for five days. This test could take place in the traditional second week of Barcelona. With a slightly later start in preparation for the season, this would at the same time affect the development of the race cars. Teams would have more time to prepare the race cars, and in addition, they could do movie days and baptismal rides. The downside, however, is that the teams would no longer be able to respond to the findings from the first week of testing.

And that's why he's still here another variant: Three test days, two days off and again three test days. This variant would have the advantage of ending the testing at the same time as originally planned, but would start later. This would again give teams more time to prepare the race cars. Two in-season testing is also the subject of debate.
