Contrary to expectations, Charles Leclerc took the first place, who was about two tenths of a second faster than Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettl.

Today’s top three qualifiers in Singapore

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari - pole position: “That can't be true. There were at least three chances he could lose control of the car. In the meantime, I thought nothing would come of it. And now I’m in pole position again, amazing. I didn’t think of that because my circle was full of mistakes. Many thanks to the team. We were preparing for a difficult weekend, but we had some improvements, which we expected a lot from, and they worked. I am very happy. The lap was crazy, my first attempt wasn’t good, I was too close to Hamilton. I knew I would have to do my best in the second round. I was lucky I didn’t land in the wall because I wasn’t dangerously close to some places. I admit that I am very surprised by this result. We can look forward to today, but the points will not be shared until tomorrow. ”

Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - second place: “Where did this Ferrari speed come from? In fact, we thought they were going to have a hard time here, that Singapore isn’t exactly their track. Respect, that was Charles' brilliant circle. I knew I had to get everything out of me if I wanted to stand completely in front. A few times it was damn tight against the wall. But unfortunately it was not enough. I can’t be dissatisfied because he has nothing to blame himself for, it was no longer possible today. I was actually expecting the front Red Bull and not a Ferrari. Whatever they did with the race car obviously worked well. Luckily, I managed to squeeze between the two red cars with difficulty. But the race is something else and I expect we will have more opportunities. ”

Lewis Hamilton was not too disappointed, he did his best, but he did not pass Leclerc today

Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari - third place: “Today the car behaved very well, it did what I wanted. My last attempt could have been better. Maybe I was a little too fast with my best lap, as the track was even faster then. However, I had some mistakes in that last quick lap and it didn’t make sense to finish it as I was already recording too much lag. Tomorrow is definitely a good race ahead of us, because the starting point is good. Above all, I am happy that the improvements have worked out excellently. The weaknesses that weighed on us in Hungary have obviously disappeared, and at the same time we were able to work on a good balance of the car. As a result, we are now competitive on a track full of curves. ”

Sebastian Vettel was particularly pleased with the fact that the improvements have worked out, which have helped make them now competitive even on a track full of corners.
