Helmut Marko on the new rules 2021: We don't need IndyCar Formula 1

Sports boss Red Bullbut Helmut Marko once again criticized the draft of the new rules from 2021 onwards in his interview, in his opinion it would be even better to introduce them well-finished only in 2022.

The 2021 rules have been a big topic for a long time, everyone wants to have something tangible. Are you satisfied with the current state of the policy?

“Or not. It would also make sense to introduce new rules only in 2022. ”

So would you be in favor of a relocation?

"It should be noted that there is no budget ceiling for next year. This means that large teams will spend a lot of money to prepare well for this policy. Let’s put it this way, if the rules came only in 2022, they would come with a budget ceiling. That would definitely be a better option. And they would have enough time to create something optimal. ”

What he has seen so far, Marko estimates, is not exactly sexy

But then what has been done in the last two years?

“I would just remind you of the front wings, which cost a lot but brought nothing. And looking at the photos and sketches, I don't think these new cars are that sexy either. ”

Would he be Red Bull ready to introduce a budget ceiling next year?

"We are now happy if the budget ceiling comes in 2021."

But if you say that the introduction of new rules could be postponed, the budget ceiling could be introduced earlier, for example.

Marko believes that it would be more sensible to introduce new rules only in 2022.

“You can’t do that. We have many collaborators and budget plans. For the next year, largely everything is already programmed. You can't do that now. ”

How does it show on the technical side? You say it’s not sexy, but do you agree with the goals that should be achieved?

“It’s all theory. In practice, however, I only have to remember this front wing. And the last thing we need is an IndyCar-Formula 1. ”

Would you say that it would be best to move everything together to 2022?

"No. This only makes sense because the budget ceiling is coming, because then the funds for everyone are equally limited. That’s also the whole background. The ceiling will remain and as a result, 2021 opportunities will be the same for all teams. Because in 2020, we can spend as much as we want - and what we have that others don't have. That was, in fact, a logical conclusion. "

Pri Red Bullu do not yet know how they will decide on the future at Honda

How is it going with plans for the future at Honda?

"Honda has not yet decided"

It means it has to Red Bull wait for the new rules and Honda to know how to proceed?

"The engine is a great help in Formula 1, no doubt."
