F1: Already the THIRD rejection of the sprint race

Plans to introduce a reverse qualifying order fell through again. Four teams and some racers do not support the proposal

According to colleagues RaceFans.net, are in a meeting on Monday Formula 1 Commission in F1 team leaders, discussed a new qualifications format for the third time. Namely, the plan was to replace the qualifiers with a short sprint race. In the main race, the racers would start in the reverse order according to the achievements in the sprint race.

Manager Formula 1 Ross Brawn said after the last race that after the last meeting in Italy, the team leaders left in a positive atmosphere regarding the new qualifying proposal. However, apparently this was only an apparent enthusiasm, as the proposal fell into the water for the third time. The president thinks similarly FIE Jean Todt, but as he said he will not oppose such a format if the teams agree.

The proposal would be accepted if voted on at least 8 out of 10 teams. At present, they do not agree with the proposal Mercedes, Racing Point, McLarn in Renault. Not all racers support such a proposal either. The plan was described as artificial, unnatural and similar World Wrestling Entertainment. Racers said it is necessary to wait at least until 2023, when one year of new technical regulations will be implemented. If the new technical regulations do not work, the format of qualifications should be changed.

If the new format were approved, it would be a big departure from tradition. At all 1030 races since the 1950s have always been on the qualifying schedule and not short races that would determine the starting order of the main race.
