Gerhard Berger said that if Ferrari wants to return to winning ways, it must abandon its approach of hiring exclusively Italian staff.

The team from Maranella is as far away from the top as it has been in a long time this season. It’s four races before the end of the championship Ferrari at the time in sixth place, and can boast only two fairly lucky podium finishes.

Many believe it is lack of success in recent years, the fault of the team’s insistence that it be as much as possible in terms of staff Italian. And a former Formula 1 racer Gerhard berger is edema of them. “When I was alone in the team, there was always a great desire for Ferrari to try to compete in the championship as an Italian team,”The Austrian said in a podcast Motor Sport. "I say today that this is not possible. Formula 1 is so complex, at such a high level, that you need the best people in the world, no matter where you find and get them. In the end, the title returns to Italy anyway."

Berger points out that Michael Schumacher’s period, when the Ferrari team was international, is good proof that key people need to be sought outside of Italy as well.

Ferrari the most successful period comes to an end 90s and start 2000swhen they are with Michael Schumacher at the helm won six team titles in a row. Berger considers that the international composition of the team at the time was proof that key people should also be hired outside Italy. “Looking back at Schumacher, the best in his area was Ross Brawn, who was British. The best in politics and as a team leader was Jean Todt, a Frenchman. The best aerodynamicist was Rory Byrne, a South African. The best racer of the time, however, was Michael Schumacher, a German. So Jean put it all together and Michael stole people from left and right. They set up a fantastic international team that was a huge success and that's how it works," Ends Berger.
