In view of the form shown Ferrari in training, maybe that’s not such a big surprise either. Because his teammate Carlos Sainz will be at Bottas started the race with another type. Surprisingly slightly worse performance Lewis Hamilton, Giovinazzi for the first time in Q3, and a good show as well Sebastian Vettl with Aston Martin. And when it’s already known, only 19 racers have passed today’s qualifiers since Mick Schumacher he did not perform because his car was too damaged in the third practice.

Q1: Quick end for Alonso

The beginning the first part of the qualifications (Q1), the best teams were left to the rest and only after five minutes did they start serious work. Then it started hunting for the best time a lap where racers took turns serially. Valtteri Bottas was the first to break the mark 1: 11 minutes and swung to the top. Interestingly, the racers did quite a few consecutive laps, such as Verstappen, Norris and both team racers Alfa Romeo.

The most active was definitely the current champion Lewis Hamilton, who drove as many as 13 laps on the first set of tires. In conclusion Q1 however, the improvements of the times were raining down. Sebastian Vettel was in a dangerous 15th place, but Alonso, Tsunoda in Latifi failed to improve his times so he is a racer Aston Martin progressed in Q2. In addition to the aforementioned trio, he also finished in Q1 mazepin.

Q2: Giovinazzi and Vettel advanced to Q3

Also in the second part of the qualifications all racers used a soft rubber compound. Due to the longer heating of the tires, the lap times became faster with each attempt. After the first power measurement, he swung to the top Verstappen in front of both racers Ferrari. They followed for the top three Norris, Bottas, Hamilton in Perez. Hag however, he drew attention to himself with eighth place. They were still behind him Ricciardo in gasly. That would be a ten for Q3..it would be.

Five minutes before the end Q2 the teams performed their second experiments. Leclerc he chased time Verstappen and managed to overtake him. Behind them, however, there were great shifts. Bottas took third place, Perez however, he placed fifth. He took care of the biggest surprise Giovinazzi, who reached the final part of the qualifications. He also qualified there Hag, which, however, failed his teammate Stroll. To his great disappointment he is after Q2 had to get out of the car as well Ricciardo.

Q3 - Leclerc pole position and broken race car

V the last part of the qualifications most racers bet on two warm-up laps in the first attempt, but Verstappen in Bottas they immediately went on the attack. The Dutchman is z 1: 10.576 minutes set the first best time and was six hundredths of a second faster than Bottas. An attack by the remaining racers immediately followed. Leclerc he beat time Verstappen for a good two-tenths of a second. Sainz however, he secured a second starting line with fourth place.

V second attempt Q3 he was the first to go on the track Verstappen, but his attempt yielded no improvement. The rivals bet again on the second quick lap. Dutchman in his last attempt he bet on everything, set the absolute best time in the first sector, but a possible pole position he prevented him Leclerc by colliding with a protective fence in the pool area.

The qualifications were thus suspended and terminated. Leclerc he kept the best starting position, next to him he will start the race in the first place Verstappen. They form the second starting line Bottas in Sainz, third Norris in gasly, and only in the fourth row are we found Hamilton, who was seventh, will be joined by his former rival Hag. Perez in Giovinazzi but they complete the top ten.
