HAAS stands behind its “HUNGRY CHILDREN” decision

Günther Steiner, the head of the Haas team, believes that the motivation that the hungry newcomers to the team had in 2021 may have led to better performances than they would have achieved with experienced racers.

Mick Schumacher in Nikita mazepin they swapped before the start of this season Kevin Magnussen in Romain Grosjean, with the development of the race car VF-21 was not completed as the team focused entirely on the new Formula 1 season 2022.

Because the season was actually over written off, Steiner said yes an experienced racer, though perhaps generally faster, he wouldn’t invest as much in every race if he knew the situation. In a conversation for colleagues from GP Fans, he said: "The thing is, you have two newcomers, you don’t have a reference, so you don’t really know if he’s a slow racer or a race car driver. Because you don’t have anyone, so we, to be honest, still don’t know. Could this race car with an experienced racer be better? Could it be worse? I do not know."

Steiner continues: “On the other hand, if you have an experienced racer, this one would be faster, but the results would be worse than they are now. At least these two young men are still motivated because they are learning to race with these race cars every day and they want to show how hungry they are for success, even though it is a place that is not the penultimate and last. While an experienced racer says like ‘Why the hell am I doing this? I'm always fighting for points, now I'm racing to be at most 18. No. ' and waiting for the racing weekend to end. I still stand behind the decision to do what we are and behind that also stands Gene (Haas, the team owner)."
