BMW announced the new iDRIVE 9

In two months, a new generation of iDrive9 infotainment will be available, which will work on Android, and the first car to have this innovation will be the BMW X1.

But that went very quickly. Maybe you still remember that it is BMW only at the end of 2020 in iX electric SUV introduced iDrive 8. Now, the Bavarian company has already announced the next generation of its infotainment system.

At the fair CES 2023 a new one is on display in Las Vegas iDrive 9, which will operate on Android. And this one is rolling out faster than you might think, as it will be a new car model X1 switched to the latest operating system in just a few months. According to colleagues from BMWBLOG this will be the first model equipped with iDrive 9. As for other car models, however, there is a bit of confusion. Because not all models will be equipped with the new one in the foreseeable future operating system. Some will work with the updated one initially and in the near future iDrive 8.5. And why not all vehicles will switch to iDrive 9? Well, it's not that simple, because cars like the current one series 7, operate on a system based on Linux, so the encoding is quite different.

The first BMW vehicle to be equipped with iDrive 9 will be their X1 model.

However, she was supposed to be user experience very similar. This also applies to functionalities, but vehicles with iDrive 8.5 for example, they will not have app stores for Android, which is planned for iDrive 9. According to reports BMW will be the first model to use iDrive 8.5, the upcoming 5 Series, which will hit the market this summer alongside an all-electric i5 counterpart. The 7 Series will also switch to iDrive 8.5 later this year, although the manufacturer's flagship model only hit the market a few months ago. BMW originally announced that it would adopt in mid-2022 Android Automotive operating system. They said it should be introduced or introduced in selected models in March this year. In addition to X1, there will be z iDrive 9 also equipped series 2 Active Tourer.

The second is the Model 2 Active Tourer.

In addition, they will also be on iDrive 9 past future models Mini, albeit with a different visual interface that will differentiate them from BMW models. The details are not yet known, but it is rumored that the iDrive 9 "aware of the content”, added support for 3D navigation in "customizable touch layouts".
