ASTON MARTIN DB12: Is it a SUCCESSOR or a facelift of the DB11?

At least the shape of the new British athlete seems all too familiar.

Pri Aston Martin are on the company's 110th anniversary and 75th birthday DB models presented the model DB12, but which, truth be told, looks very similar to its predecessor with the label DB11. So is it just a massive facelift with a new name?

Aston Martin DB12 has a more muscular shape: the track width is 6 millimeters larger at the front, 22 millimeters at the rear, larger and redesigned as well refrigerator grille, and the threshold has also been changed. The wide track, which is framed by new LED headlights with distinctive daytime running lights, is complemented by standard 21-inch light wheels.

On the model's nose DB12 is proudly engraved with the latest iteration of Aston Martin's wing emblem. The DB12 model is the first logo sports car with new wings to symbolize "the beginning of a new exciting era". New, smaller, frameless side mirrors complement the new design and improve it at the same time aerodynamic profile car.

Among the more important innovations is Aston Martin's own infotainment system.

An important milestone for the DB12 model is its introduction new generation infotainment system, which was entirely developed by the company itself. A new system that supports Apple CarPlay in Android Auto, is a fully integrated multi-screen system and is displayed on 10,25-inch high-resolution screens with capacitive touch controls. Buyers can choose between leather and Alcantara in the interior.

Under the hood, Aston Martin engineers have increased the power of the familiar 4,0 liter biturbo V8 engine to 680 hp, i.e. to the level of the previous V12. To this must be added 800 Nm of maximum torque between 2.750 and 6.000 rpm, which is 34 percent more as in the model DB11. Enough for 3,5 seconds to 100 km/h and a maximum speed of 300 km/h.

Power is transmitted through 8-speed automatic transmission and for the first time in Aston Martin DB models also through electronic rear differential (E-Diff). This differential is connected to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. Unlike a conventional limited slip differential, v milliseconds switches from fully open to 100% closed differential.

The first examples of the DB12 will be delivered in the third quarter of this year, but Aston Martin has not yet given any information about prices. The price of the DB11 was about 200.000 euros, so the DB12 can be expected to be slightly more expensive.
