Mazda MX-5 has new HEADLIGHTS and INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM

In addition, the 1,5-liter engine of the Japanese model has a little more power. The update should also cover the global version next year.

Mazda has unveiled a thoroughly redesigned model in Japan MX-5. It can be called "ND3", as it follows the update from 2019, when the model was introduced "ND2” with a stronger version 2,0 liter engine. After the launch in Japan mid-January 2024 later these updates will also be available for global version.

It is equipped with new LED headlights, which now also include daytime running lights. Previously, they were located in the bumper and consisted of several dots - a design that became obsolete after the model ND1 from 2015. Even the rear lights have been subtly changed and Mazda now used everywhere LEDs – including turn signals. Left side grilles of the refrigerator was also modified to accommodate a radar sensor for adaptive cruise control with the function "Smart Brake Support". The latter while reversing up to speed 15 km/h automatically stops the vehicle if it detects an object. The exterior changes are complemented by the color in “Aero Gray Metallic” and new 16- and 17-inch wheels.

In addition to subtle changes to the exterior and engine, Mazda added a new infotainment system to the MX-5 model, as the previous one was outdated.

V inside he is getting old infotainment system finally gave way to the new one 8,8-inch system that we have recently seen in special models JDM Mazda 2 in CX-3. It updates the dashboard thanks to thinner bezels, but the real advantage may be functionality, as the old system was slow and had an outdated user interface. A new one is also available light brown interior with a beige soft top - a combination for which Mazda says she is inspired by old roadsters. Although the press release doesn't mention it, the images show a frameless, red button rear view mirror SOS, a slightly updated instrument panel and what looks like a hitch USB-C.

MX-5 also has a newly developed asymmetric differential with limited slip, designed to improve the stability of versions with a six-speed manual transmission. Engineers have also changed electric steering mechanism, in order to reduce friction and ensure "natural and clean feedback". Another change is the introduction of mode DSC track for dynamic stability control, which intervenes only when you would no longer be able to control the vehicle. Besides, it is 1,5 liter the engine gained four horsepower – if using high-octane fuel. Bigger 2,0 liter the unit with a manual transmission promises better responsiveness during acceleration and deceleration.

According to Japan, the changes should also be introduced to the global version of the popular Miata.

Introducing the model ND3 automatically means it will be the current generation MX-5 remained on the market for at least a few more years. Purists will certainly appreciate this decision, especially since it is Mazda already announced that there will be no other option than electrification of the next model.
