Modified Audi R8 in the style of a rally car

The off-road R8 sportster has a raised chassis and an underbody impact protection plate.

Audi was in the eighties of the last century important player in Group B of the World Cup in rally and has been marking this success in its marketing ever since. The maker of this unique R8 drew on the brand's past and reworked it into off-road racing vehicle. An interesting processing was on auction in the USA, which ended in mid-December.

Ta Audi R8 was converted into a vehicle ready for rally, this very year and included 2,0-inch (5-centimeter) increase in ground clearance and Bilstein suspension with coils. Skid plates protect a large part of the chassis from damage from sharp stones and the like. A change 4,2 liter V8 engine includes an improved intake tract, modified exhaust system and ECU tuning. The original engine power is 430 hp and 430 Nm, although it is now likely due to the changes slightly larger. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels.

Visual changes of this model Safari R8 include tape s four LED lights on the front side. Roof rack offers additional storage space. The vehicle runs on white 18-inch wheels with red rims. Rear bumper was completely removed to reveal shiny mufflers and suspension parts. Exterior it has a white bonnet, sides and rear with some strategically placed graphics. The rest of the body is dark blue.

Interior compared to standard equipment not significantly changed. The seats are made of black leather with red stitching. Besides steering column there is an additional control panel here which is supposedly used for management auxiliary headlights on the nose. The odometer shows 55.909 kilometers, of which, according to the data from the auction offer, 3.000 belonged to the current owner. It looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive around macadam road. Perhaps it could also be used for competitions in rallycross.
