Is Aldo Costa returning to Maranello?

Yesterday, exactly one year has passed since the death of former Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne. Since then, the Scuderia has changed dramatically internally. Since the beginning of this season, the team has been led by Mattia Binotto, who has meanwhile set up a three-member support team in the technical field. Apparently, however, an old acquaintance could return to Maranello soon.

As reported by the German portal Auto Bild motorsport, there is growing speculation in Italy, claiming that in addition to Simone Reste from Alfa Romeo, Aldo Costa, who is currently working for Mercedes, could return to Maranello. The Italian has been part of the Ferrari team since 1995 and, together with Michael Schumacher, has celebrated great successes in various roles.

In 2011, he left Ferrari and joined the Mercedes team. As Chief Engineer, he had great credit in 2014 for the first Silver Arrow title of the Hybrid Period. It was only a year ago that it became known that he had retired to the background and that in the future he would only work for Mercedes as a consultant. "I wanted to spend more time with my family, he visited Italy more often," he justified his decision at the time.

According to the media, the 58-year-old from Parma could announce his return to Maranello this weekend, as part of the German GP racing weekend. The media also states that they have a very good relationship with Chief Binott.

However, Binotto itself underwent certain restructurings in the first half of the season after taking over the team. After explaining that he does not occupy two positions (team chief and chief technician), it became known that he occupied three important positions in the team with new people.

David Sanchez is responsible for aerodynamics, Enrico Cardile for chassis and Corrado Iotti for engine. Alfa Romeo returnee Simone Resta also has a role to play. The Italian is supposed to be involved in the 2021 project and will soon start developing the car according to the new rules.
