Bottas on the future: Of course I am thinking of Plan B

Will Valtteri Bottas, after three years of racing for the Mercedes team, have to hand over his seat to Esteban Ocon in the 2020 season? In any case, the Finn has already armed himself with a plan B… and also C.

Valtteri Bottas he is looking at alternative solutions if he were on the world champions team Mercedes remained without a seat the following year. This was also confirmed by the Finn during the racing weekend Hungarian GP.

Bottas was last year with Mercedes signed a one-year contract, which also includes an option for 2020. Initially, it seemed that this option was a kind of insurance for silver arrows, if Bottas does not oppose it better this year Lewis Hamilton than in previous years.

Meanwhile, apparently, something else is hiding after that, and that is a luxury problem Mercedesa. Not that they have an improved one Bottas - especially in qualifying - hot iron in the fire, but with a spare racer Esteban Ocon another share in its own racing staff is still available. Here it is, of course George Russell, but he is not in the fight for the second seat of Mercedes next to Lewis Hamilton, which was finally confirmed by the team boss Toto Wolff.

So from Bottas perspective, there was only one more competitor left for the seat, which for Finca is no reason not to take this situation seriously. He has already armed himself just in case. “Of course, you need Plan B and maybe also Plan C if you are in such a situation and if you want to continue to stay in Formula 1. So we are understandably talking about this thing."

Toto Wolff will not have an easy break. He has to make an important decision.

We speak - and I do not speak - in this case it obviously means Bottas and team Mercedes or Wolff. The latter has repeatedly mentioned that the decision for 2020 also includes what will happen to the racer who will drop out. “This plays an important role in our country. We have a certain responsibility for our racers,”Says Wolff.
