RACERS 'CONTRACTS: What is most important in them

An experienced race manager issues the importance of racers ’contracts with teams that used to be as long as scripts.

Lewis Hamilton, racer Mercedesa, doesn't have it yet, Sebastian Vettel, racer Ferrari, also not. We are talking about a new race contract in Formulas 1 after the 2020 season.

In the podcast Beyond the Grid, is an experienced racing manager Julian Jacobi gave a deeper insight into the negotiations for a new contract between racers and teams. His clients included, among other things, large-caliber royal-class motorsports Alain Prost in Ayrton Senna.

Julian Jakobi also had two Formula 1 giants under his wing, namely Ayrton Senno and Alain Prost. One of the Brazilian's contracts was 64 pages long.

"The longest contract I have ever written was 64 pages long. This was one of the contracts of the late Ayrton Senna. At the time, the contracts were mostly even longer,” he says Jacobi and explain what is most important in the contract. “Many people believe that money is the most important point in a contract, which of course is not true."

Jakobi explains that in the contract, it is not the money that is most important, but the exit clauses.

Jacobi issues the main point of the contract: "The most important are the exit clauses in the contract. These allow you to pass the racer on, or the racer can enforce his item. Of course, this also depends on things like, for example, whether the team has a factory engine or a partner one. Things like that. Because we all know that a racer can only be a world champion in the best car."
