The FIA warns: We don’t want to have ten MERCEDES in the box!

Nikolas Tombazis, the technical head of the FIA, said that with this verdict they want to prevent ten Mercedes from being on the starting line due to copying in the end.

Team Racing Point is from FIA received a fine 400.000 euros and withdrawal 15 pointsbecause they used brake channels, based on partner data Mercedes.

Nicholas Tombazis, technical head of the umbrella organization FIA, gave his position on the case. “We had to take action. What we don’t want to see is that in 2021 we would have ten Mercedes on the starting line. We want the usual Formula 1 and not a starting field made up of copies of some other race car."

Nikolas Tombazis, the technical head of the FIA, said at the judgment of Racing Point that they do not want 10 Mercedes to stand in the starting line next year.

Tombazis continues: “Copying has been part of Formula 1 for years. People take photos and easily copy parts of the car. Sometimes it also happens that your own concept of solutions is very similar to that of a competitor, because you achieve similar results in the wind tunnel. This can never be completely prevented. But Racing Point took that to the next level. And it’s not just about the brake channels, it’s about the whole concept of the car. For me, this is tantamount to violating the design of a Formula 1 race car. And this is not the royal class we want to see."

The Greek also points out that they will introduce a change in the rules of the 2021 season that will prevent the conduct of Racing Point from becoming a Formula 1 standard.

Grk therefore announces: "We will introduce an amendment to the 2021 policy to prevent Racing Point conduct from becoming the standard. To imitate certain parts, it will remain, to take over the whole concept of the car, and we want to prevent that. We will be making these policy changes in the coming weeks, and we want to send a clear message to the teams."
