MERCEDES will support RED BULL when ENGINE freezes

Red Bull for the time after Honda needs a solution and a team of energy drink maker already to freeze engine development. Mercedes is helping them here.

Future Red Bull Racing in Formula 1 it is uncertain. Their motor partner Honda has announced that after the end of the 2021 season it is retiring from the royal motorsport class, meaning it is Red Bull at the same time for the 2022 season and on without the engine.

Mercedes has already closed the door to its main competitor in terms of the supply of its engines, so Red Bullu they only remain Ferrari in Renault. But the Austrians have different plans and want to take over the engine Honda and use it on its own. However, only under one condition: Engine development must be frozen. For the further development of technologically complex power units Red Bull without a big manufacturer in the background I wouldn’t be able to. Already the production and use of these engines is a huge task.

Red Bull has decided to take over Honda engines, but only on the condition that the development of powertrains is frozen from 2022 onwards.

However total freezing engines is not actually provided for in the regulations. But Mercedes would nevertheless agree to this as it is Toto wolff confirmed to colleagues from Motorsport-Magazine.com. "We should do everything to Red Bullu give it a chance. Formula 1 is in good condition with three engine manufacturers. But if we can keep four, I understand what he wants Red Bull thereby achieving. They no longer want to be a partner of the manufacturer, they want to remain a factory team," so Wolff, who also has an understanding for their political field. “I believe that Honda has done a very good job and I am sure that they have an even more powerful engine in preparation, which Red Bull fills with optimism. I also understand, however, that they don’t want to start a resource dispute with other manufacturers in engine development. This is a sensible proposal, which I support."

Otherwise, they don’t want to supply them with their engines, but Toto Wolff is Red Bullu assured that he would support the proposal to freeze the engines.

"Red Bull is a very important brand for Formula 1 and we should do everything we can to keep these two teams in Formula 1. We need to help them continue to retain their factory team status,”Added the team leader Mercedes, who, however, was never a big supporter of the energy drink manufacturer, as the compatriot team once called it Mateschitz. Wolff could now support that Red Bull Racing tasks from clean altruism, because by freezing the engines it could also Mercedes saved a huge amount of money. And we would certainly live quite well with the unchanged situation.

Maybe Renault will also change its mind and support the idea of freezing, but we can't say that for Ferrari at the moment, because their engine is the worst and if they freeze it, they are in trouble.

Red Bull it therefore has guaranteed support Mercedesa, and the question is how the other two manufacturers will react. Maybe it could be Renault served Mercedes' altruism, which we certainly can't say for Ferrari, who has already pointed out that for them the freezing of engines not applicable. To some extent understandable, because in Maranello they have to make up for the substantial lag behind the rest.
