Imagine Gerhard Berger, yes from DTM creates a watchable series with concrete names and teams, slowly starting to get an image. With the team Jenson Team Rocket RJN the Austrian has an important trump card up his sleeve, with which he could also gain new potential customers to enter the competition.
It's a team Jenson Button together with a friend Chris Buncomb founded two years ago, and this year they are with a race car McLaren 720S GT3 competed in the British GT Championship.
“I’ve always liked the DTM and it’s wonderful to see the series open up a new chapter with GT3 vehicles,” he said Button, who was a guest of the Super GT series at the final of the DTM v season a year ago Hockenheim. He has a special bond with Berger Button, as he made his Formula 1 debut for Williams-BMW 20 years ago, just when Berger was director BMW Motorsport.
“I’ve known Gerhard for a long time and I’m sure he’ll make a good show! Behind the scenes, we are all working to make this DTM project a success. I'm glad we were able to include McLaren in the project, ” he says Button.
It is not yet known, s how many race cars the Didcott team will be competing in the DTM Championship, but it is clear that Jenson Button will not compete as a driver: "No, that's not part of the plan," explains the team leader, Bob Neville and adds: “Jenson is very busy and has other responsibilities. He also has two small children and lives in California, so it would be very difficult for him to coordinate everything together. ”
In addition to competing in DTM the team plans to participate in GT World Challenge Europe and the British GT Championship. Participation in SRO series was already planned last year, but was due to the crisis with coronavirus canceled.
