Franz TOST: A team with two NEWS can't be COMPETITIVE these days

The head of the AlphaTauri team explains why two newcomers can no longer afford Formula One and why at least one experienced driver is essential to the team's success.

Franz tost is of the opinion that there were times when it was also possible with two newcomers to be successful in Formulas 1, long gone, as the differences in the middle of the scale are so small that each one counts error. With the new season, the differences are expected to be further reduced, which will also be affected budget constraint.

"In the current structure of Formula 1, it is almost impossible for a team to compete successfully with two complete newcomers," he says Tost. Among the teams, these strategies were used, which they also used in the past with the predecessor of the team Alpha Tauri, to the team Toro Rosso, served only at Haas, who performed with the duo last season Mick Schumacher in Nikita mazepin.

“Yuki Tsunoda is a perfect example of a talented but inexperienced racer,” says Franz Tost.

“The differences are too small to be able to experiment and wait for both racers to get used to the racer and learn the laws of F1 racing. For example, I can tell the difference between Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc in Jeddah, when they were 87 thousandths apart in the qualifiers, and there were two other racers among them. 87 thousandths of a second is 78 centimeters long on that track, ” describes the minimal differences pictorially Tost.

“When you have a newcomer, these differences increase to tenths, so we can't afford to perform with two newcomers. A good example is Yuki Tsunoda's season, which was not as bad as it may seem at first glance, but it paid the price for inexperience, ” says the team boss Alpha Tauri and adds: “I think that the combination of an experienced driver and a newcomer will continue in the future, as it is significantly better for the team's competitiveness. Nevertheless, AlphaTauri will continue to care for the young. ”
