Immediately after the start of training, almost all racers took to the track, with the exception of both racers of the team Red Bull in Lewis Hamilton, who had to wait in the garage as mechanics were working frantically on his race car. Pri Mercedes they declined quite a bit in the first practice porpoising, which was probably also the main reason for extensive "overhaul" on the British race car.
From the very beginning, times were faster than in the first training session, as it is Charles Leclerc with a time of 1: 33.121 per second improved the best time Pierre Gasly from afternoon training. Soon after everyone else, they drove onto the track as well Verstappen in Hamilton, and was the only one left in the pits Sergio Perez. At Alfa Romeo they apparently settled the matters that plagued them on FP1, so it is Bottas, who at that time drove only two laps, diligently accumulating laps.
Around midway through training, the first racers replaced the mid-range tires with soft, but in the first rounds no one managed to get close Verstappen, which put the best time on the tires of the middle compound. He came even closer to him Magnussen, which may indicate that they are at Haas on the first free practice a bit bluffed.
Then they came to taste Ferrari, since with a time of 1: 32.263 Charles Leclerc for six tenths of a second detached from everyone else. Shortly afterwards, he replied Verstappen and was the first to drop below 1:31. He has also improved Sergio Perez, but he struggled with problems Lewis Hamilton, who had problems with the brakes, and a few minutes later the Mercedes garage announced that the seven-time world champion still has problems with the DRS system.
He also struggled with technical problems Daniel Ricciardo, who had to finish training early due to a water leak. He drove only twelve laps, which is of course extremely uncomfortable for him, as he had to before due to coronavirus also omit testing last week. Leclerc has meanwhile reduced its backlog by Verstappen, so that in the end they were separated by only 87 thousandths of a second.
The first two have thus become quite detached from all the others, as it is Sainz on the third he was more than half a second behind, he was still close Russell, fifth Alonso but he was less than a second behind. They lined up until the tenth place Bottas, Perez, Schumacher, Hamilton in Magnussen. The red lantern fell Albon, which was 2,8 seconds behind Verstappn 's time.
