ATLAS E-Mobility plans AFRICAN's first electric car

The Anglo-Moroccan startup company plans to bring an electric crossover from and to Africa in 2027 to the EMEA market.

New Anglo-Moroccan company Atlas of E-Mobility wants to launch the first electric car developed in Africa. Otherwise, he has a company Atlas headquarters in London, but they want to develop and manufacture the car in an already existing factory in Morocco.

According to the silhouette cover photo, which the company announced, an electric crossover is planned. It should be developed using proven architecture of electric cars established manufacturer of original equipment. The vehicle will be high-quality, affordable and inspired by Moroccan design. Production is planned for the year 2026, and a year later, an unnamed model is expected to hit the market, namely to customers in EvropiAt The Middle East in Afriki (EMEA market).

The founders understand the problems of electric cars in emerging countries due to lack of charging infrastructure. For this reason, the company will also have to develop technologies to increase the range and battery and charging networks. El Bakkali, co-founder and CEO of the company, said: “We believe that companies are literally ignoring Africa in the transition to electric vehicles. However, no one should underestimate the continent's determination or doubt its ability to develop world-leading carbon-free technology solutions."

Atlas was established to take advantage of Moroccan entrepreneurship, technological ingenuity of this country and expertise in the production of vehicles, added the head of Atlas. The vehicle is expected to bring economic, environmental and social benefits to Africa and beyond. Technical director and co-founder Senhaji Hannoun he added: "We do not underestimate the size or complexity of the undertaking required to end Africa's fossil fuel-dependent era of mobility.” Merely developing an electric car will not be enough. That is why they will work together with their partners in charging infrastructure. Over the past 20 years, Morocco has grown rapidly as a manufacturing hub for global automotive brands. Atlas will take this development to the next level by exporting the African electric car to the world.

According to the company Atlas every year in Morocco they produce a similar number of cars as in Italy. Last year they produced almost 465.000 vehicles. This is almost a sevenfold increase compared to 2011. Morocco has the production capacity 700.000 vehicles per year, but they aim at 1,5 million. More than are active in the automotive industry 250 companies, including the concern stellantis and the group Renault, but there are also small and medium-sized companies and various technology startup companies.
