Development third generation Nissan Leaf is in full swing and will undergo significant changes compared to the current model. At the start of sales at the end of next year, it will be transformed into a high-performance crossover, which will be produced in the same British factory where the electric Qashqai and Juke models.
According to a source at the automaker, it will have the next generation Leaf a lower and more elegant profile compared to the Qashqai and Juke models. Design inspiration will be drawn from the model Ariya and the concept Chill-Out, which the brand introduced in 2021. Few would describe the first two generations of the Leaf as particularly attractive, but the new model is said to have a much more attractive appearance.
Pri Auto News have learned that Nissan's designers have decided not to do it again "awkward proportions" the first and second generations of the Leaf model. This goal will be helped by the fact that the car will share the same platform CMF-EV like Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech and it won't be built on an internal combustion car platform like the outgoing model.
Za Nissan's Chill-Out Concept were characterized by smooth and flowing body surfaces with few unnecessary lines, creases or sharp edges, something that cannot be said for many cars currently on sale. It also features a front end dominated by LED headlights, an LED light bar and an illuminated Nissan logo. If the new Leaf is to be seen at least 50% as stylish as a concept, compared to the current car, it will be much more pleasing to the eye.
The new Leaf will be powered by state-of-the-art batteries made by the Chinese company Envision produced in a plant built next to the Nissan factory in Sunderland in the United Kingdom. These advanced batteries provide a 30% higher energy density compared to the current model's batteries, which will significantly increase its range.
