We announced this at the end of last year, but now it's official: it's been a good five years since it came to the market BMW Z4 (G29) finally got the combination of an in-line six-cylinder engine and a manual transmission. Say hello to the new Z4 M40i Edition Pure Impulse.
A Munich company is rightfully proud of its long past six-cylinder roadster with manual transmission. BMW 328 1936, BMW Z1 from 1987 and BMW Z3 The 1995 Roadster is just a few examples. Of course, the last Z4 was also available with this combination. The current generation can now for the first time compete with 3,0-liter B58 R6 engine and a six-speed manual transmission. Currently, the combination with six-speed manual transmission and six-cylinder engine otherwise only available in the high-performance M2, M3 and M4 models.
Z4 M40i Edition Pure Impulse, like its twin z 8-speed automatic transmission, develops 340 BAM in 500 Nm. Power is transmitted only to the rear wheels. With a manual transmission, it needs 4,6 seconds for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. The automatic transmission version is only 0,1 seconds faster. BMW promises a gearbox developed exclusively for this model. But it's about modular gearbox, which has been adapted to the engine performance. The six-speed gearbox has M-specific components in the area of the gearbox assembly and shaft. In addition, it is so named external shift lever, which includes a custom-made shifter, its guide and transmission linkage.
To emphasize the motif driving pleasure with manual transmission M40i, BMW has sharpened the suspension. The car is equipped with a sophisticated software control adaptive dampers, steering, traction control and differential M-Sport. There are also special additional springs on both axles, and a stiffer stabilization clamp at the front. Larger wheels are also available – 19-inch on the front axle and 20-inch on the last one. It's a betrayal from the outside Pure Impulse recognizable by the black-painted housings of the exterior mirrors, its own flaps to optimize the air flow on the rear wheel arches and red brake calipers.
You may have noticed that the car is in the photos very green. This is due to the new metallic color Frozen Deep Green for European models Z4 edition. In the US, they are available in green metallic color San Remo Green. However, it is not necessary that you will order the car in matte green. Other colors from the popular Z4 color range are also available. V inside ima Pure Impulse its own shifter gaiter and exclusive cognac-colored leather with black trim. BMW Z4 M40i they will start delivering with a manual transmission 2024 brand, but the Bavarians have yet to comment on pricing.
