Hyundai and Iveco joined forces in the development of a new electric commercial vehicle

The model to be produced by Hyundai will be based on the global eLCV platform.

Hyundai in Iveco together they are preparing a new electric commercial vehicle for Europe. The companies did not reveal details, but confirmed that the model will be based on the Hyundai global eLCV platform and will debut on the IAA transport show in Hannover in Germany this September.

A vehicle with the Iveco label will be the first export model to use Hyundai's new platform, which has been developed specifically for the "commercial vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 2,5 tonnes to 3,5 tonnes". The companies added that Hyundai will manufacture and supply the cab for the chassis, Iveco and will adapt and distribute it.

We can expect more information in the coming months, but it looks like the vehicle will have low bottom loading space, which will enable better capacities for cargo transportation. This is not saying much, but with this model Iveco will once again enter the lively delivery vehicle segment.

This is not the first collaboration between Hyundai in Iveco, as they have already collaborated in the development of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, such as eDaily FCEV in E-Way FCEV. The companies added that this new agreement not only extends their partnership to a wider range of environmentally friendly lines, but also highlights the joint commitment of both companies to "accelerate the transition to carbon-neutral mobility and transport."

Hyundai's Ken Ramírez agreed with this opinion when he said: "We believe that our global eLCV platform, together with the expertise of the Iveco Group in the European market, will represent a transformative force in the light commercial vehicle market and contribute to the acceleration of a carbon neutral future in Europe."
