On November 16, 2017, Tesla presented the second generation Roadster. Fast forward to February 28, 2024, and there was still no electric sports car on the schedule. But if we believe Tesla's leader Elon Musk, the wait is almost over. The controversial CEO has spoken out on his social platform X (formerly Twitter) and talked about the long-awaited high-performance electric car.
If there's one executive in the automotive industry who knows how to market a product, this is it Musk. To advertise the new Roadster, he made some pretty bold statements: "There will never be another car like this, if we can even call it a car." Tesla CEO added: "I think it has the potential to become the most stunning product launch of all time."

It will most likely be a car reached a speed of 100 km/h in less than one second.
Tesla management mentioned that the design is complete and we will see a production model towards the end of the year. The goal is to start shipping to customers sometime in 2025, but knowing the company's modus operandi, we can never be too sure.
Given that it's since the premiere of the Roadster concept some six and a half years on, it's time to revisit the tech specs it promised Tesla. It was initially stated that it would reach a speed of 100 km/h 1,9 seconds, from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds, and the quarter mile in 8,8 seconds. The four-seater, four-wheel-drive machine promises to top speeds of 250 km/h and travel on a single charge 1.000 kilometers.
New generation model Tesla Roadster it was said to have a removable glass roof that could be stowed in the trunk when not in use. In an old Twitter post Musk made in June 2018, talked about the possibility of the company SpaceX z “10 small rocket drives that are flawlessly arranged around the car. These rocket motors dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering. Maybe they will even make it possible for Teslas to fly.” In May 2021, Musk claimed that the car would accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in incredible 1,1 seconds.
As if that wasn't crazy enough, Musk now says he'll do it in less than 1 seconds. We are quite skeptical about this claim. Crazy McMurtry Speirling it can do it in 1,4 seconds on Avon's slick tires and isn't road legal at all, while the Roadster will have a license plate. The Spéirling doesn't weigh very much either, weighing in at just 997 kilograms, which is certainly a lot less than what a much bigger one will weigh Roadster.
As usual with Musk's promises, take these announcements with a grain of salt with the proverbial pinch of salt. We'll believe it when we see it. Even the original technical specifications published in November 2017 would be more than enough.
Ahead of the announced unveiling in late 2024, Tesla will be happy to accept reservations by $ 50.000. If unchanged, the price of the Roadster ranges from $200.000 to $250.000. It's not cheap, but it is compared to Rhymes of Faith, which costs more than $2 million and doesn't have rear seats, doesn't even convert to a cabrio, quite a bargain. McMurtry Speirling, which we already mentioned, costs about a million dollars.
