Some may remember the name Rinspeed. For many years it was associated with the car showroom in Geneva, where eccentric and globally unique creations were presented under this name. Just think of the model Rinspeed sQuba. An electric Lotus that could drive underwater.
Rinspeed je Swiss car manufacturer, which he founded in 1979 Frank M. Rinderknecht, but today it has lost some of its oomph. Just like the Swiss Motor Show itself, which came back to life this year but was somehow a shadow of its former self. Years 1981 and the Geneva Motor Show experienced a golden era. And Rinspeed presented a model on this wave Aliport. A car that was based on the facelift of the first generation Golf GTI and he challenged DeLorean DMC-12, which was presented to the world public on the same occasion.
Pretty grim, both inside and out
Gullwing door, which open in the middle of the roof, were characteristic of these cars from 80 years of the last century, but they were not new to the industry: the inspiration was Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from the 50s. However, it was an element that impressed the public and remained in its memory. Aliport wanted to emphasize this already with its name, and the other obvious feature was the headlights. The interior was also modeled after the brand Zuffenhausen: The steering wheel had a sporty design with three spokes and a small diameter, and there were two televisions on the center console Panasonic (which could be received in black and white) and a stereo system Sony HI-FI with a power of 280 W, equipped with six speakers and three headphones.
