Some may remember the name Rinspeed. For many years it was associated with the car showroom in Geneva, where eccentric and globally unique creations were presented under this name. Just think of the model Rinspeed sQuba. An electric Lotus that could drive underwater.
Rinspeed je Swiss car manufacturer, which he founded in 1979 Frank M. Rinderknecht, but today it has lost some of its oomph. Just like the Swiss Motor Show itself, which came back to life this year but was somehow a shadow of its former self. Years 1981 and the Geneva Motor Show experienced a golden era. And Rinspeed presented a model on this wave Aliport. A car that was based on the facelift of the first generation Golf GTI and he challenged DeLorean DMC-12, which was presented to the world public on the same occasion.
Pretty grim, both inside and out
Gullwing door, which open in the middle of the roof, were characteristic of these cars from 80 years of the last century, but they were not new to the industry: the inspiration was Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from the 50s. However, it was an element that impressed the public and remained in its memory. Aliport wanted to emphasize this already with its name, and the other obvious feature was the headlights. It's in front Volkswagen's radiator mask replaced six rectangular headlights, divided into two groups of three, separated by a central air intake. At the back, there were oversized taillights. They were connected in a reflective panel and had the inscription "Turbo", which reminded of Porsche 911 with a charging engine.
Aliport's Rinspeed it had enlarged wheel arches, a front spoiler and special plastic bumpers painted in the same color as the body. The interior was also modeled after the brand Zuffenhausen: The steering wheel had a sporty design with three spokes and a small diameter, and there were two televisions on the center console Panasonic (which could be received in black and white) and a stereo system Sony HI-FI with a power of 280 W, equipped with six speakers and three headphones.
A lot of desire to race
Aliport's Rinspeed was equipped with sports seats Recaro, lowered suspension and Bilstein shock absorbers; 15-inch alloy wheels were fitted with tires Pirelli P7 205/50 VR 15. The engine was 1.588 cc in-line four-cylinder from Golf GTI, which has been enhanced with a turbocharger Rotomaster TO4B and he produced 135 BAM. This is how the Swiss car reaches speed 200 km/h and accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h 7,5 seconds.
