Zandvoort 2020 - Huge interest of fans

Over a million fans have expressed interest in buying a ticket for next year’s Grand Prix of the Netherlands. The renovation of the racetrack is expected to be completed by March next year, and they do not intend to replace the sand excursion zones with asphalt ones.

The rush for tickets to the Dutch Grand Prix is indescribable. Many fans want to see Max Verstappen live at his home race in Zandvoort. Over a million inquiries have already come to the organizers' headquarters, which was also confirmed by sports director Jan Lammers. The racetrack will be renovated, but without removing the characteristic sandy excursion zones. "We knew the race would be very popular, but over a million requests for tickets is crazy." Lammers adds that Sunday's race could sell out as many as six times!

Organizers allowed fans to pre-register. From a good million fans, tickets will be decided by lot. This week, the lucky ones will receive a notification and they will then be able to buy tickets. "105.00 spectators will come to the racetrack every day, but at the same time we are looking to see if we could increase that number."

According to the online portal RaceFans, architects from the company Dromo were hired to renovate the racetrack, but they were instructed not to touch the sand excursion zones during the renovation. Because these belong to the heritage of the traditional trail. With this, Zandvoort stands against the current trend, namely large and paved excursion zones.

Traditional sandy excursion zones are supposed to remain in all corners. They even gave up the asphalt surface next to the white line, as is the case in Monza (Parabolica). In the left turn of the Hugenholtz, the paved excursion zone is supposed to remain intact. Organizers in Zandvoort confirmed that the F1 summit wanted the sand excursion zones to remain.

Renovation of the racetrack is scheduled to begin in November this year and end, as already mentioned, in March next year. The race is scheduled for May 17, 2020.
