Rimac, a Croatian car company that achieved worldwide recognition with its Nevera hypercar, plans to venture into a new field. An automobile manufacturer known for its premium electric vehicles and as its parent company Bugatti, with initiative Project 3 Mobility expanding into the mass mobility market.
It should be in early 2024 Rimac presented a fully autonomous robot taxi as a pilot prototype, and by 2026 it should already be in commercial use. Although details about the project are currently limited, Coach reports that they have confirmed at Rimac that the development of robotaxis partially supported by Kia. Founder and CEO Mate Rimac told the publication that Rimac wants to provide accessible and environmentally friendly urban transport "to change the lives of as many people as possible".
The vehicle is expected to be operational without human control. Rimac's comprehensive plan includes the development of supporting infrastructure such as charging stations, storage hubs and parking lots. Mate Rimac describes robotaxi as "a car, but of a completely different kind".
Rimacov discrete approach to the introduction of the robot taxi is the result of a deliberate strategy with which it wants to avoid "insufficient deliveries". Project 3 operates as an independent brand within the group's portfolio Rimac Group, which differs from the manufacturer of high-performance supercars and the brand Bugatti.
